I'm only giving this 2 stars based upon my over 40 years of long distance hiking and what I look fro in a hiking guide. Once you have used AT, Long Trail and Colorado Trail guides for a long time you get used to a certain format that presents the information in a certain order. I did not find this guide to be very helpful for me. HOWEVER, let me say that since there seems to not be much else available for this trail that for YOU this may be the choice you should make if you are seriously going to hike this trail. So, not the book for ME but possibly the book for YOU. Take what I say here as based upon MY needs and whether I felt they met MY needs. I suggest that your opinion may vary. Item returned. Was expecting an actual guide to the MST rather than a rambling narrative with no maps, poor quality minute B&W pictures, weak on cross referencing and tips, lack of objectivity ... useless for planning or actual hiking purposes.
